Wartime Veterans Facts

Veterans and their spouses or dependents can qualify for tax-free income.  Hands holding an American flag

Families struggling with or facing Alzheimer’s can benefit greatly for an enhanced Aid and Attendance Pension.  To qualify the veteran or spouse of a veteran may qualify for substantial benefits.   A veteran requiring a protective environment such as a nursing home may qualify as follows:

Maximum Potential Monthly Benefit (2015 numbers)

Single Veteran:  $1788.00

Couple (Veteran in Protected Environment) $2,120.00

Couple (Spouse in Protected Environment) $1,404.00

Eligibility Requirements:

Active Service 90 days (not counting boot camp)
After 9/7/1980, 24 months
Honorable, general or medical discharge (DD 214)
1 day of service during WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf Wars
Must be:

  • Age 65 or older, or
  • Total & Permanently Disabled, or
  • in a Nursing Home/Protective Environment, or
  • Receiving Social Security Disability

There are income and asset limitations.
There is no requirement that the veteran suffer from a service related disability or injury.


This Workshop will explore the benefits, eligibility, planning and application process.
